Undergraduate Degree
Health Care Leadership and Management (HCLM)
Introduction:
This curriculum is available to healthcare and business professionals who are either currently working in the healthcare field or who wish to return to the profession. The course of study is designed expressively for those individuals.
The entire curriculum is based upon leadership and managerial competencies needed to succeed in a career path. Each course will provide a range of options so that it will literally be customized for your professional needs and career paths within the parameters of that particular course. At AWU we believe that rigid, canned courses do not always serve each student best interest. So through the curriculum, a path of study can be taken that best suits your needs. All of our professors have significant personal, practical experience in the field of health administration. They also understand the special needs of the adult professional student. With this concept and philosophy in mind, a curriculum was designed to serve both immediate career needs and those of the future.
The competency-based curriculum is designed around 5 modules:
& Leadership For The Future
& System Competencies
& Personal Leadership Competencies
& Leadership Competency Knowledge Areas
& International Health
Specific courses in each module are listed below.
Most programs, even those that accept working health professionals, use a curriculum based on students right out of high school with no practical experience, previous college, or previous training. At AWU we accept only working adults; our curriculum is designed exclusively for the professional who must manage a full life of career, family, finances and other demands of modern life.
The curriculum is designed to allow the student to begin at any time; there is no waiting for the semester to begin. We realize that the typical academic calendar does not necessarily revolve around anyone schedule; therefore, our curriculum is designed to allow the student to work at home, at work, or wherever and whenever one chooses.
